High-speed crossing

For the moment, the Transat Jacques Vabre fleet is enjoying fairly steady Trade Winds, although there is a weather system up ahead.

Mirabaud is currently lying 7th in the IMOCA class and making good headway towards the West Indies. Morale is high, Michele sent us this message: “We had beautiful sunshine this afternoon and were able to find a shady spot on deck in the shadow of the mainsail – so nice! I did get a little bit ahead of myself though in the clothing department and had to put my jacket on again – a slight excess of optimism!

The spray at 15 knots starts off refreshing, but soon becomes uncomfortable and two hours of great helming later the right hand side of my face is covered with a crisp layer of Atlantic salt. I can assure you it may sound pleasant, but it’s quite the opposite, thankfully we have a good stock of wet wipes!

The routings all say the same thing this evening, so we should have wind all the way to the West Indies, 1,000nm away. A thousand miles at pace – we all have speeding in mind!”
